Jackalope Festival Final Day – LIVE STREAM https://3rdstreet.tv/jackalope-festival-final-day-live-stream/ Sun, 01 Jun 2025 15:58:09 +0000 https://3rdstreet.tv/?p=2523 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Lightening strikes.  Thunder.  Black clouds and heavy torrential rains fell last night.   The local weather agencies cautioned people to take cover indoors and away from electrical lines.

Micah Desforges, the head of Tribu, the company that owns Jackalope, decided to pull the plug on Saturday’s events and hold everything over until Sunday morning.

“I thought it would be better err on the side of caution.  It wasn’t easy to make the call to postpone – the skaters were super excited to participate,” Desforges said.  “I didn’t wait too long before I made the call because I didn’t want to risk the chance of anyone getting hurt.  In the end, it was the right call to make.  Besides, we had a great after party at Beachside Social in Virginia Beach.”

The weather forecast is clear for Sunday.  The first base jumper took a practice jump at 10:30 am EDT.  The jumper landed in the target zone without any problems.  There was a slight wind but nothing too gnarly.

The base jumping competition will conclude today and last for at least three hours.

Yesterday, we were only able to have a few competitors in the men’s open Semi-Finals.  The action will pick up later today at 12:45 PM EDT as we continue with the men’s open competition.

The women’s Vertical Ramp competition will be held today.  The women’s vert will start at 3:30 pm EDT.

Nina Ye, one of the top contenders to win the Women’s Vertical competition stopped by our media booth and told us what she has been up to.

“Last year, I participated in the Vertical Ramp in Mississauga.  I got fourth place and was super stoked,” Ye said.

Ye is a fifteen-year-old from Oceanside, California.  This is her first time skating in the Virginia Beach competition.  She said, “Virginia Beach reminds me of home because of the ocean and sand.”

I asked Ye what she has been working on recently.

“I have been working on my Judo 540’s a lot.  I’m really excited about this trick.

The Jackalope Festival and Block Parties are becoming more popular while attracting the younger skaters who hope to compete on the world stage.  One of the principal ideas behind Jackalope is the idea that community and skate culture unite people from all different backgrounds.

In 2026, Jackalope will hold their first Block Party in Ventura, California.  Ventura is located just north of Los Angeles and is a hotbed of skate culture.  I met two Ventura city officials while watching Jackalope who said,

“You know, skateboarding is embedded in the Ventura’s DNA.  Our vision is to make Ventura a healthy sport destination city.  Jackalope is a community oriented event and it fits perfectly with the big city but small town vibe of downtown Ventura. Our businesses love it too,” the city officials said.

Today, we will conclude the final live competion for the men’s and women’s vertical competition and the street course.  Watch the live stream here on 3rdstreet.tv by clicking on the link below.

The live stream starts at 12:15 PM EDT.

Jackalope Festival Live Stream of Vert and Street Semi-Finals https://3rdstreet.tv/jackalope-festival-live-stream-of-vert-and-street-semi-finals/ Sat, 31 May 2025 20:04:44 +0000 https://3rdstreet.tv/?p=2500 UPDATE: Click on the link below to watch the continued SEMI-FINALS:

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The fun and excitement continues as the qualifiers for the men’s Vertical Ramp and Street Course Semi-Finals begins today at 5:45 PM EDT.

There will be pro skaters mixed in with up and coming skaters from all over the world.

Two Japanese skaters qualified for the Men’s Vertical Ramp. Shion Suganami and Kosumo Fujiki will go up against the skater from Hawaii, Kalani Ferolino. Ferolino got a lot of big air during his trial runs while Suganami and Fujiki showed incredible form as they spun around and up and over the top of the Vert Ramp lip.

One skater to watch is the youngster from Australia, Hudson Walker. Walker has been making a lot of noise recently as he seems to be getting into his groove as his confidence on the Vert Ramp continues to improve. Today, Hudson’s form was great, his extensions, height, and grabs were perfect.

Hudson qualified in second place behind Luke Kahler, one of the favored skaters in the tournament. Kahler is from Huntington Beach, California and according to thebaordr.com is ranked 80th in the world.

The wind picked up overnight and at 3:00 am, the team that manages the High Line Competition decided to take down the lines between the two hotels. One technician said that the winds had started to reach at least 40 MPH and the safety precaution that was in place demanded they crew stow the lines.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is clear and the wind has steadily died down throughout the day. The High Line Competition is expected to go on tomorrow. The schedule will be impacted as they have to complete the competition in one day instead of two. The High Line competition is expected to be completed within three hours tomorrow.

So far, the Base Jumpers who are parachuting off the top of a local hotel have not been able to fly yet. One jumper said that the conditions aren’t right and they don’t want to take any chances. Looking up at the waving and bent flag that flys over the Base Jumping launch platform, one has to agree that it is better to be err on the safe side.

In the ocean, the Jetskies gave the Festival goers quite a show. Without using any ramps to luanch themselves, the Jetski operators somehow did three consecutive flips by using the force of the water as they ramp.

Totally RAD!

The Semi-Finals for the Vertical Ramp and the Street Course begins today at 5:45 PM EDT. You can watch the live stream here by clicking on the link below.

Tomorrow, 3rdstreet.tv will live stream the finals for the Men’s and Women’s in the Vertical Ramp and the Street Course.

Enjoy the show.

One booth included photographs of the local oceans and the tubes inside the waves.  The photographer, when asked how he photographed such dramatic pictures, he said, “I actually get in the water, with my waterproof camera, and take the photo as the wave crashes over me.”

Suspect arrested in Santa Monica beach stabbing https://3rdstreet.tv/suspect-arrested-in-santa-monica-beach-stabbing/ Sat, 26 Apr 2025 00:37:29 +0000 https://3rdstreet.tv/?p=2470 SANTA MONICA – Earlier this week, the Santa Monica Police Department arrested a man in connection with the weekend stabbing of a brother and a sister.

Police arrested Ivan Angel Plancarte, 20, and later charged him with attempted murder. The police are still searching for the second suspect and are confident they will find him.

The stabbing happened early Saturday morning when the brother and sister, along with friends – who were visiting Santa Monica, decided they take a late night sojourn to the beach and put their feet in the water. While walking toward the water, the group of friends noticed two Hispanic men riding on scooters while seeming to be intoxicated. After some time, they noticed the two men were closer and the group began to feel uncomfortable.

Eventually, the two men approached the group and started to verbally attack them. It is not clear what happened next, but the two men allegedly pulled knives from their pockets and attacked the group. The brother was stabbed five times while the sister was stabbed four times.

The sister provided these pictures to KTLA:

As the altercation escalated, one of the people in the group called 911 who arrived within two minutes. On a side note, speaking from experience, many Santa Monica residents question the validity of arrival time by SMPD. Nonetheless, by the time SMPD arrived on site, they suspects had fled either on foot or on the possibly rented scooters they were previously seen riding.

One Santa Monica resident who has been following the crime said, “Thank God the brother and sister weren’t seriously injured. But,” he continued, “If the criminals rented the scooters, we should be able to find out their identities because they had to use their cell phones, credit cards, and app to rent the scooters,” He stated.

Despite a recent rise in physical violence at the beach and incidents of drunkenness, drug abuse, and marijuana use – the city of Santa Monica is considering allowing for people to openly drink in parts of Santa Monica.

Palisades High School Students start school in Santa Monica https://3rdstreet.tv/palisades-high-school-students-start-school-in-santa-monica/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 23:42:25 +0000 https://3rdstreet.tv/?p=2453 SANTA MONICA – On January 7th, 2025, fire swept through the Santa Monica Mountains and leveled The Pacific Palisades. Schools, businesses, cultural centers, and history of Southern California was wiped out within the first 24 hours. The fire, unfortunately, continued to burn for a week – ultimately displacing thousands of people and costing billions of dollars in damage.

One of the questions that needed an immediate answer was, “what to do with the students?” who were unable to attend the schools in the Palisades.

Lana Negrete, Mayor of Santa Monica, announced the City of Santa Monica, would welcome at least 2,000 displaced students to Santa Monica. The city decided that the vacant building that once housed Sears – near 4th street and Broadway – would undergo an emergency renovation and welcome the students until an alternative solution could be found – or they destroyed schools could be rebuilt.

One Santa Monica resident said he was happy the empty building would now be put to good use. “The old Sears building is in a great location in the heart of Santa Monica,” the man said. “Kids commuting from the Palisades can easily make the drive while those coming from other locations have easy access from the 10 Freeway,” he concluded.

On Tuesday, several thousand students used the – almost always empty – train to commute from their permanent homes or their temporary homes. The Palisades Schools are part of Los Angeles Unified School District. Many of the students at Pali High didn’t live in the Palisades as the school was a Charter school – meaning – kids from outside the area could attend.

At the end of the first week, the students attending school seem to be happy. One student said, “The fires were challenging for everyone and like obviously caused a lot of damage. But we move on. I’m happy to be back at school with my friends.”

One teacher told the media, “We have the experience of teaching online due to Covid, so we transitioned quickly while we prepared for the move to the new building. The kids are really happy now.”
