SANTA MONICA – On Friday and Saturday, the SAMO High Boys Varsity volleyball team played in the Redondo Beach / Mira Costa Varsity Classic at Redondo and Costa.
Their first game was a tough one against El Segundo. But the Vikings proved they were up to the challenge as they made kill after kill and racked the points up for the win against the heavily favored El Segundo team.
The Vikings went on to beat both Warren and Peninsula during the two-day tournament. Out of a complete field of 28 teams, Santa Monica tied with Wiseburn Da Vinci for 11th place. The players were happy with the finish which is the one of the best finishes the team has had in a few years.
Throughout the tournament, the group really worked together as a team and showed promise for the upcoming regular season. Of note, Lucas P. was impressive on the court and has some notable kills while Ryne K. showed his libero skills. Colin H. kept the team together with superb passing.
Later today, the action picks up again as SAMO High hosts the guys from Beverly Hills. The last time the two teams met, SAMO High won the game in the first two sets.
